Captain here. Getting up to speed will already take forever. If you want to reach light speed with an acceleration of 7G which is what f16 pilots experience when they pull up rapidly, you would accelerate with 7*9,81=68,67 m/s^2. Speed of light is 3.00 * 10^8. It will take you 50 days to reach the speed of light. We don't currently have a spaceship that can accelerate with 7g for 50 days straight and this is unbearable for the passenger (and probably will kill him/her/apachehelicopter in no time). You also have to deaccelerate. Also takes 50 days. Basically. It's impossible to reach other solar systems. Also take in mind that taking weighty items with you takes a lot of energy. To take 1kg with you you will have to give it 0.5*1*(3.00*10^8)^2=4.5*10^16 Joules of energy. 1 m^3 of gas has 3,6 MJ of energy. This means you need 1,25*10^10 m^3 of gas. Goodluck taking that with you. I can go on with saying impossible things, but in conclusion: We won't reach other stars *flies away*

It still takes to long. The better option would be, trying to find out how you can build up a wormhole around yourself. I think some professor in Harvard or Oxford has already made a concept of that.
